How Hollywood Action Heroes Keep Fit for Screen
Fit Hire were asked by Warner Bros. to help keep one of their action stars in shape. They were making a production called “The Six Billion Dollar Man”. At the time of writing it is yet to be launched. Their action star needed a personal gym space whilst on location.
We were approached because of our experience helping on similar productions in the past where we found innovative solutions to keep the cast and crew in top shape.
The Challenge Warner Bros. Faced
Warner Bros. are giants in the film industry, and this was not a new experience for them – after all, filming on location for weeks at a time demands a great deal of planning and logistics, which any film company thrives on. Adding a gym to the mix is not uncommon, especially as the artists don’t want to train in a public space, for obvious reasons. However, this one was quite involved:
Firstly, although the prestigious hotel, where the whole production team were staying for several weeks, had its own gym, this would not be suitable for private training. A room was dedicated for that purpose and it needed to be filled with suitable equipment. So, essentially, we needed to design a new gym.
The second challenge was to supply the precise kind of equipment that the actor in question demanded. We keep a lot of hire stock, but on this occasion we needed to invest in one specific machine (a Keiser Infinity Trainer) at great cost, to complete the selection.
But the main challenge was finding a way to deliver a truck load of equipment to the hotel which was in Berlin – and install it ready for use. We decided to use a courier service to drive it across the channel and through France, and to fly our technicians out to Berlin on the day it arrived. We were assured that the access to the room would be on the ground floor, for which we were grateful.

The Results Delivered by Fit Hire
The new equipment we ordered arrived on time.
The courier successfully delivered the gym equipment on the same day that our staff arrived at the Hotel.
The layout of the workspace worked well.
The installation was heavy work but as promised, the access to the room was very good. Our staff enjoyed a well-earned night stay in Berlin and returned the following morning.
The actor and crew were very happy with the equipment, and for the period of the hire it remained reliable.
Although the film has not been released yet, we expect to see that our equipment helped the actor to look in great shape on screen. The equipment was returned safely to Fit Hire, and we now have an even greater range of kit to offer the next production.
